Video: The Cure debuts new guitarist Reeves Gabrels, digs out rarities at Pinkpop Festival

Haha! OMG Reeves! In the Cure! Boston is so proud of you. I loved the Bentmen!
I once spent an entire halloween party dressed up as a Pilgrim chasing Reeves around and stalking him, but never actually speaking to him.

The Cure, ‘Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.’ Released May 4, 1987 — exactly 25 years ago today.

Oh my god, 25 years? What a great 15th birthday present that must have been. I remember hearing “Catch” for the first time and thought it was the most sublime Cure song ever made.

Twenty-five years ago today, The Cure released Standing on a Beach: The Singles, a seminal compilation — and yes, we’re talking about the cassette here, not the Staring at the Sea CD — that stands alongside New Order’s Substance and Catching Up With Depeche Mode as one of the signpost compilations of the ’80s college rock era. Read more here.

ZOMG The cassette version with the b-sides! I MISS THIS.

Ousted keyboardist Lol Tolhurst will rejoin The Cure after 22 years when the band performs its first three albums — 1979’s Three Imaginary Boys, 1980’s Seventeen Seconds and 1981’s Faith — in their entirety on May 31 and June 1 at the Vivid Live Festival at Australia’s famed Sydney Opera House. Dubbed “The Cure Reflections,” the two concerts — first reported today by the  Sydney Morning Herald — also will feature the return of on-again, off-again keyboard player Roger O’Donnell for part of the performance. Details here.

Who wants to go to Australia this summer/winter?
