Just an FYI - I live in LA and in my experience, your 'NY system' is essentially how things work here, as well. We may have more outright "flaking", which LA seems to be infamous for, but I'd say its virtually identical to how you described it. asked by viciousneutral

Interesting. It’s probably a big city thing. It wasn’t like that for me in Boston or SF, even with active social lives. We all knew what we were doing each night, and we all generally met up when planned. 

  1. spangley said: Yes, as a San Franciscan, it would annoy the hell out of me if people cancelled plans rather frequently. I’d just stop making plans with them, probably! But, I also “maybe” a lot of bigger meet ups. One-on-one plans are different (to me at least!)
