A Lack of Blu-ray →
heyitsnoah: I wish I could remember where I read it, but a few years ago, during the peak of the HD DVD/Blu-ray kerfuffle, someone made the point that it was likely Microsoft was supporting the less popular HD DVD because ultimately it was betting on digital video delivery and a format war that left consumers wary of physical media would buy some more time until that sort of thing was a reality....

“Some people online are trying to flout Dunbar’s number, to become connected and...”
– This is kind of a bullshit argument (no offense Amit). Sure Dunbar’s number may not expand, but Godin is also assuming that the relationships on the web are the same as the ones in person, which is patently untrue. Sure I have something like 700 “friends” on Facebook and of course I don’t keep up...

The best news item that i missed on my vacation. Why on earth they waited until the 21st anniversary instead of last year, I have no idea, but I’ll take it. I’ve been waiting for it for like 4 years.

saucy: caro: A whole new nasty teenage prank: “I’m gonna tell Facebook that you’re dead!” This + the Brazilian teen girls who make “playdoll” flickr! accounts for American babies makes for a creepy pre-Halloween week on the web. No new prank - Livejournal has had memorialized pages for years, and you know how the drama kids love LJ.

Pitchfork:MGMT Title New Album  →
The Examiner piece revealed that the duo is recording in Malibu and Spacemen 3’s Peter “Sonic Boom” Kember is handling production duties, while Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux/RTX is set to provide some guest vocals. I’m probably like one of the biggest Spacemen 3 fans ever, but… wow. This is gonna be weird. MGMT seems to definitely be catering to their psychadelic...

jayparkinsonmd: via Kevin MD Young, otherwise healthy people who contract H1N1 flu can rapidly deteriorate into a critically ill state in a manner that is eerily reminiscent of the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, according to research published in the November 4 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association Researchers from St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg observed 168 patients who...

Alex Payne — So You're Moving to San Francisco →
This was interesting. I agree with a good amount of it, but it definitely doesn’t reflect my time living in SF. I find the people to be super nice, and I don’t find the city to be particularly dirty, save for Market Street and the Tenderloin, but neither seemed particularly more dirty than the LES in NY. I love the architecture here, too. I love the victorians, but I also love city...
